What We Do...
College / Career Counseling
Our counselors work closely with our High School students to get them thinking about a future career. Students have access to interest inventories and college information to begin exploring possible career choices. We also help students find relevant internships and access financial aid information.
Crisis Counseling
When a crisis arises, it takes precedence over everything else we do. We take every measure necessary to ensure student safety. We want all of our student to feel secure. We ask that parents keep their emergency card current and include alternate telephone numbers in case we need to call in an emergency. If a crisis is too large for our department, we can also rely on our highly trained county crisis management team to step in and help immediately.
Class Scheduling
Every attempt is made to create the schedule that best meets the needs of your child. If you have a scheduling concern or request that involves changing a course selection, please fill it out in writing. This helps the counselor document parental requests. Students sometimes request schedule changes that their parents are not aware of and are not in their best interest. Please bear with us during the first weeks of school. This is a particularly difficult time for scheduling. The high volume of incoming requests creates a backlog of work.
Resources
We have many outside resources to help your child or your family. We can provide sources for tutoring, crisis intervention, parenting, abuse, and mental health counseling/ therapy just to name a few. Our school is also staffed with a school psychologist who may also have further services or helpful information. Please feel free to call the Guidance Office with any questions or concerns. We will be glad to help.
Peer Counseling
Frontier Academy offers a cross-section of peer counselors who provide peer mediation, conflict-resolution and mentorship to promote the acceptance of all students and support a positive and safe school climate. This program also addresses skill building in communication, problem-solving and decision making. Our peer counselors have undergone extensive training and act under the direct supervision of the Guidance Office.
